What’s the last car you got to test drive? Unless it sells for seven figures, odds are YouTuber Shmee150 has you beat. Earlier this month, our favorite automotive jealousy-maker posted his brief run behind the wheel of one of Italy’s finest, the Pagani Huayra. The venue at his disposal was San Cesario sul Panaro, home to the factory where the car was built. Although Shmee was relegated to public roads and highways, you can feel his excitement about this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

After a quick warm up with the Pagani rep at the wheel, the two switch seats, and instantly Shmee is agog at the view he gets to enjoy. The interior is decked out in a glut of fine touches and well-crafted details, and although the car is very low and wide, Shmee says it’s not that difficult to drive. However, it’s still very much a driver’s car: the seven-speed sequential gearbox takes some getting used to, and Shmee is obviously a bit tepid with the throttle, but that banana grin never seems to leave his face.

The verdict is as expected: “That car is phenomenal! It has so much torque, it just pulls away and pulls away, you can be in such a high gear and it still keeps on going,” Shmee gushes. “The turbo noises, the wastegate, the whooshes, everything you’re hearing all around you... but you’re looking at this sort of complete elegance and design, everything inside is so nice… what an incredible day!”

When tasked with creating a follow-up to the Zonda, you’re best advised to leave nothing on the table. With that in mind, Pagani fitted the Huayra with only the lightest and strongest materials available, including a carbon-titanium (aka carbotanium) chassis. Curb weight is below 3,000 pounds. Mounted behind the luscious cabin is a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 from Mercedes-AMG that produces 720 horsepower and 740 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough to spank your daily driver, even rolling in top gear. The brakes are from Brembo, and have drilled carbon-ceramic rotors. The aero is adaptive and effective. Prices when new started at $1.3 million, but if you want one, you’ll need to look on the used market, because each of the 100 individual examples is already spoken for.
