Perhaps reflecting the realities of the market for the vehicle, Mercedes appears to have been shooting the new SL in Dubai, in preparation for the advertising accompanying its anticipated introduction.

But, that provided the opportunity for someone else to take a picture.

The new SL is a facelift of the old one, differing mostly in front.  The headlights also appear to have changed, to give more of a family resemblance to newer models.  There are also new vents in the front fenders, just behind the front wheels.

Inside, it’s a carryover.  However, there is a rumor that the direct injection 3.5 liter V-6 first seen in the CLS will be available in the SL, in addition to the current engines.

The car is to be introduced at the Geneva Auto Show and come to the States by the end of next year.  It will plug the niche in the line-up until an completely new SL is introduced in 2012.
