If you’re a fan of the air-cooled Porsches, you ought to know about Singer. For the uninitiated, Singer is a U.S.-based company that restores only the Porsche 911 964s. Singer 911s are quite a hit with enthusiasts, and if you follow their work, you’ll know that their current big project is the Porsche 911 DLS. This basically includes restoration of 75 examples of the 911 as per the client’s requirements. Singer is bringing two of those to the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed and has let out some details regarding the same.

The latest Singer 911s are part of the company’s Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS). The company has brought two of the 75 911 964 builds to Goodwood. This happens to be its sixth appearance at the festival.

What’s Special About These Singer 911 Builds?

The two builds that Singer has brought to Goodwood are called Oxford Commission and Unico Commission. Both the cars are powered by a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated, flat-six air-cooled engine that makes 500 horses. These free-revving engines hit the redline at over 9,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a lightweight magnesium gearbox.

Both the commissioned cars feature an aero-optimized carbon fiber bodywork. The magnesium center-lock wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. They come with a bespoke double-wishbone suspension in the front and a lightweight suspension at the rear. On the safety front, the cars come with ABS, Traction Control, and Electronic Stability Control. Singer mentioned it has sourced parts from companies like Multimatic, Bosch, Michelin, Brembo, Hewland, and BBS Motorsport.

The Oxford Commission comes in an Oak Green Metallic shade with Champagne polished bright trim and satin carbon accents. On the inside, it is finished in Bone White with Tartan seat centers.

The Unico Commission, on the other hand, is painted in an Absinthe Green shade with Nickel polished bright trim. The side stripes come with Blood Orange brand lettering. I hope the ‘Porsche’ branding doesn’t get them in trouble this time! Inside the cabin, Singer has equipped lightweight carbon fiber seats finished in Blood Orange with Nickel polished grommets. It also features a front-lift system.

Conclusion

This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, held from July 8 to July 11, will be Singer’s sixth appearance here. Singer’s CEO, Mazen Fawaz, said, “We’ve had so many milestones at Goodwood – from launching our first Targa restoration on the Cartier Lawn, to sharing our 10th anniversary with our clients driving their own cars on the famous Hillclimb– it’s only fitting that our newest chapter, the first two client-specification examples of the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study, are providing another first at Goodwood.”

Singer noted that all the 75 cars will be restored in new U.K. facilities in Bicester Heritage. From what we already know, the 911 DLS won’t come cheap. Singer has priced it at $1.8 million a pop!

As mentioned earlier, Singer offers restoration services only for the 911 964. The 964 gen was produced between 1989 and 1994. The latest work on these 75 commission models is part of the company’s DLS initiative. All these cars will be built in the U.K. at the company’s new facility.
