• Social Media Influencers and Cool Cars - The Shameless on Rodeo Drive

All that’s needed is a good camera, cash props, and lots of shameless egos

LISTEN 02:55

It’s one thing to be a social media influencer and carry actual influence in the real world. It’s another thing to be a faux social media influencer who parades around a place like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California, acting all that despite probably not being anywhere close to even being “that.”

It’s a testament to how the word “fame” is viewed these days that you can see people posing for photographs with exotic cars, gobs of money, and the occasional honey or two, all for the sake of posting said photos on Instagram and watching the “likes” and comments come pouring in. It’s a real thing that happens in today’s world, and if you need more convincing, check out this 13-minute video from YouTube channel effspot. It’s a shameless look at a shameless way of becoming famous. Then again, no one’s stopping them, right?

If you’ve ever been to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California, you’ll know that one of the most expensive streets in the world is lined with some of the most expensive brands in the world. It’s the hotspot for the rich and richer, the top one percent of the human population. Or at least it was.

That sentiment still holds a kernel of truth in it, but these days, Rodeo Drive has become more than just America’s richest address. It’s also become one of the most popular stomping grounds for social media influencers who live their lives vicariously through carefully manicured photos that they present to the world.

It’s a cringefest through and through, and yet, driving around Rodeo Drive not only offers you a glimpse into that made-up lifestyle, but it slaps you right across the face with it.

This compilation video prepared by YouTube channel effspot provides a no-holds-barred look at the social media influencer scene that’s running amok at Rodeo Drive. From scantily clad women posing in front of a Lamborghini Huracan Evo to young people filming what appears to be hip hop videos with stacks of Benjamins in front of the Gucci store, there’s no shame for the shameless.

It doesn’t end there, too. Young men with far too much makeup on their faces staring at the horizon for an Instagram-worthy photo have become common sights in the Beverly Hills address. Observe a random intersection and you’re just as likely to see a traffic officer directing traffic as you are a man dressed in Supreme gear from head-to-toe taking random selfies to show off to his social media followers.

Yes, Rodeo Drive has become a jungle for so-called social media influencers who crave the kind of attention they can only find over the Internet. It’s a sad state of affairs, really, but it’s also become par for the course in today’s world. It’s eat or be eaten, right? Fame, after all, is a “like” button away, or in the case of these social media influencers, thousands of “like” buttons away.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio
