At first glance, the details are pretty much spot on for the new vehicle, including a bit of a facelift for the styling. The aesthetic is definitely an evolution, rather than a revolution.

Carrying the internal code of G05, the forth-coming fourth-generation BMW X5 is due out by the end of the year, and now we’re getting what appears to be an official set of photos, first leaked by the Russian website Autoreview.

At first glance, the details are pretty much spot on for the new vehicle, including a bit of a facelift for the styling. The aesthetic is definitely an evolution, rather than a revolution, with updates including stuff like slightly restyled kidney grille intakes and new taillight housings.

These particular images show the X5 30d xDrive model, as well as the optional M sports package to make it even more aggressive with the addition of new exhaust finishers and new bumpers.

Under the skin, the updates will be much more substantial, as the new X5 is expected to get BMW’s latest CLAR platform, something also shared with the 7 Series and 5 Series. The X5 should also get a new suspension setup, while several hundred pounds will be shaved from the curb weight thanks to the inclusion of materials like magnesium, aluminum, and carbon fiber.

The X5 should also get a new suspension setup, while several hundred pounds will be shaved from the curb weight.

The proposed engine lineup includes a selection of four-, six-, and eight-cylinder options across world markets, with both gasoline and diesels on the table. Plug-in hybrid power should also be a part of the equation.

Stateside, look for a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder in the base model, plus a range-topping 4.4-liter V-8, the latter of which could approach upwards of 590 horsepower. Those with a need for speed should look for an even-faster X5 M variant capable of 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, while rough-stuff enthusiasts will get an optional off-roading package to boot.

The next-generation BMW X5 will see an official debut later this year, with sales commencing in October. Rivals include the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, and Mercedes-AMG GLE.
