Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the division that handles Lamborghini’s motorsport efforts is teasing what looks to be a new hardcore race car via a short video that leaves us wanting for more. Especially since it’s hard to pinpoint what this car is and where and if it will race.

In all fairness, the video says “newest motorsport car” and “unprecedented experience” when it comes to the mysterious car brewed by Squadra Corse, but that’s about it as far as information goes. We can see some narrowed headlights and sci-fi taillights, wide fenders together with a roof scoop and a big wing and diffuser. So far, this is your typical race car treatment.

The car seems to be a heavily-tweaked Huracan, however, there’s no word on what Lamborghini Squadra Corse plans to do with it. We also know that Squadra Corse has been building Super Trofeo Huracans since 2014 and GT3 Huracans since 2015, so this new car might signal the birth of a new racing series.

Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s latest offspring is the Huracan STO, a street-legal supercar inspired from the track-only Super Trofeo (STO stands for Super Trofeo Omologata). It is powered by the familiar naturally-aspirated V-10 tweaked to produce 640 horsepower and 565 Newton-meters (417 pound-feet) of torque which it then sends to the rear wheels.

The Huracan STO is good for a 0-62 mph (100 kph) sprint time of three seconds flat (0-124 mph/200 kph takes nine seconds flat) and a top speed of 193 mph (310 kph). It helps, too, that the whole thing tips the scales at just 2,952 pounds (1,339 kilos).

Naturally, the STO is optimized for high downforce readings and takes a lot after the race car when it comes to integrating bits and bobs such as the front splitter, the louvers on the front wheelhouses, and the NACA intake mounted in the rear fender. Oh, and the rear wing can be adjusted manually.

With these details in mind, this new mysterious race car from Squadra Corse will turn out to be a cracker of a machine so we can’t wait for more info to surface. We’ll keep you posted, as always.
