Speed camera used to trap mobile phone motorists
In UK speed cameras will be used to trap motorist that are using their mobile phones while driving. Of course, the primary function of the device will still be that of detecting speeding drivers, but if the police officers will spot a driver that is using a cell-phone they are allowed to prosecute the motorist.
Starting today the drivers caught using a mobile phone while driving will receive a £60 ticket, double the previous penalty, and the addition of three points on their licence.
The government hopes that the tougher penalties will dissuade motorists from using their phones at the wheel and encourage more use of hands free devices.
