At the same time as all the other models in the 911 lineup, the Carrera will also receive an update. The first prototypes were caught testing back in February, and testing has continued ever since. Today our spy photographers caught a new prototype out on the roads of Germany and around the Nurburgring, and for the first time we also get a pretty good look on the car's interior.

Just like all the other prototypes caught testing in the past, changes to the facelift 911 Carrera will be rather subtle and they will be focused on improving the car's aerodynamics. Up front, there is a new bumper with different air intakes and vertical slats that can be opened or closed depending on cooling requirements. Those strange lights you see in the corners are just temporary and they are placed there just to hide the real DRL’s and indicators. In the rear, the only changes will happen around the bumper and the air outlets on the engine hood.

Of course, updates to the interior won't be very significant and, as the spy shots reveal they will be limited to just a new, fully digital dash - a first for the 911. It is similar to the one found in the Taycan and features a clean, yet ultra-modern design for the instrument panel, with all the operating controls quick access. The curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dashboard, offering the driver the best driving experience. Everything else inside seems to be untouched.

As for the engine, it has been rumored for quite some time that Porsche will offer a few updates under the hood. One of these updates should be a new 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat-six engine. This engine in the GT3 delivers a total of 502 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. Of course, you shouldn’t expect to see the same amount of power in the 911 Carrera, but a naturally aspired model will make many Porsche fans happy. While there are no official details just yet, all the prototypes have this new exhaust set-up indicating that something is up for a change. We also know a hybrid version will also follow soon.

We have no official word on when the facelift 911 will make its debut, but it should happen either at the end of 2022 or in early 2023. Sales will begin shortly after that.
