• Spy Shots: An Early Look At the 2024 Audi Q5

This is the last ICE-powered Audi Q5 before the nameplate will be fully electrified

The Audi Q5 is one of the most popular SUVs in the automaker’s portfolio. Like most cars worldwide, the Q5 will also be transitioned into an EV a few years from now. But, before that, the SUV will go under the knife and come out in a fresh avatar in what would be the last generational update given to the internal combustion-engined Q5. The next-gen Q5, which will be the third generation, has been spotted testing in the Alps, and from what we can decipher, it will get a hefty redesign.

The Next-Gen 2024 Audi Q5 Will Be Bolder

The next-gen Audi Q5 has been caught testing in the Alps with some heavy skin on. But, despite that, we can notice that it has been given a new front fascia. You can see an aggressive face that includes sleeker headlights, a single-frame grille, air curtains on either side, and a wide bumper opening at the bottom.

It seems to be a little longer than the current Q5. That’s not just the length, but also the wheelbase. This could result in better legroom and cargo space. For all we know, the extra length is offered to accommodate bigger batteries for its mild- and plug-in hybrid setups without reducing the cargo capacity compared to the current model.

The rear doesn’t look too different for now, but we are pretty sure we’ll see some changes as the SUV nears production. Expect new taillights, a redesigned bumper, and different exhaust tips on the next-gen Q5. New wheel designs will also certainly be a part of the mix. There are no images of the cabin, but an overhaul can be expected. This means the new Q5 could have a fresh cabin layout that includes giant screens, more tech features, new upholstery options, etc.

The Engine Options Are Still Unknown

The engine options are still a mystery, but they shouldn’t change much. The current crop of Q5s is offered with a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but in three different states of tune. All the options are mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

In the entry-level tune, it makes 201 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It takes 6.8 seconds to 60 mph and has a top speed of 130 mph. In the mid-tune, it puts out 261 horses and 273 pound-feet of torque. You get a 12-volt mild-hybrid setup here. It is slightly quicker, taking 5.7 seconds in its sprint to 60 mph, but the top speed remains the same. The most-powerful tune is a plug-in hybrid setup with a 17.9 kWh battery. The engine and the electric motor combined churn out 362 ponies and 369 pound-feet of oomph. It gallops to 60 mph from rest in five seconds flat. The top speed is 130 mph when the internal combustion engine comes into play, and 85 mph in electric-only mode.

The 2024 Audi Q5 is expected to debut in 2023 as a 2024 model. The 2022 Audi Q5 starts at $43,300 and tops out at $64,800 before any options. Expect the 2024 Q5 to be a little heavier on the pocket when it arrives.
