We know that the next-generation Maserati GranTurismo is going to make its debut soon—most likely before the end of this year. The iconic grand tourer that was known for its beautiful styling as well as having one of the best-sounding V-8 engines ever will also spawn a fully-electric Folgore variant, and our spy photographer was able to capture it taking its time around the Nurburgring.

What is the Maserati Golgore?

At this point, we already have an idea of what the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore will look like. After all, the Italian automaker already teased its upcoming electric grand tourer earlier this year. It’s no surprise that it will look similar to the variant that’s going to be powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE), but the Folgore comes with a few alterations since this version doesn’t have an ICE.

The most obvious change to the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore is found on its front fascia. Since there’s no ICE under its hood, the grille has been closed off. There’s also a charge port at the left rear corner at the rear bumper. Apart from that, the GranTurismo Folgore looks identical to the standard model, which means that you get a fabulous coupe with the classic proportions of a grand tourer. A long hood and short rear deck give the GranTurismo a very distinct silhouette, even from afar. You definitely wouldn’t mistake this for any other vehicle.

We still have no clue what the interior of the upcoming GranTurismo will look like, though we expect some of the high-tech goodies from the recently-unveiled Grecale to be adopted by this new grand tourer. Stuff such as the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) infotainment system and a fully-digital gauge cluster is pretty much expected inside the new GranTurismo—along with a very luxurious interior.

Will the Maserati Folgore Be Fast?

As for what will power the GranTurismo Folgore, rumors suggest that it will come with a dual-motor setup, effectively making this an all-wheel drive (AWD) coupe. It is also rumored to have a total output of around 1,200 horsepower, which should enable this grand tourer to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3 seconds flat. Top speed is predicted to be 300 km/h (186 mph).

The next-generation Maserati GranTurismo will most likely be unveiled before the end of the year, while the electric Folgore model that we caught on camera will most likely arrive six months later.
