While Mini is preparing to launch an all-electric lineup, the future generation Cooper will be a very interesting one. The British company will offer an all-electric cooper built in China, but it will also continue to offer a combustion-powered hatchback that will be built in Oxford, U.K. Like usual, the ICE-powered model will also span a JCW package, and our spy photographers caught it again, this time during hot weather testing in Southern Europe.

What Will Power the 2024 Mini Cooper JCW?

Mini mentioned that the future ICE-powered Cooper models will be considered more of a facelift of the current generation, than a new generation. This means the JCW will continue to be offered with the same engine as the current model. We are talking about a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that produces a total 302 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Mini could offer a few small updates in order to keep up with the latest emission standards, though. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph should be done in the same 5.2 seconds, while top speed should still be in the 165-mph area.

How different will the 2024 Mini Cooper JCW be?

The entire JCW prototype is camouflaged which means we should expect a lot of updates when it comes to the car's look. The first thing we can spot is a slightly shorter front overhang - but this can have something to do with the camouflage. One thing is for sure: the front end will change a lot. There will be a new bumper, new grille, and new head lights - that look almost identical to the ones in the future EV model. The rear seems to be untouched, while the side mirrors received a new shape and come with integrated indicators. The prototype caught testing also features big exhaust pipes, but we expect the production version to have the typical twin pipes from the current model.

While the exterior will remain mostly unchanged, the interior will come with lots of improvements. The biggest changes will include a big round touch screen display in the middle, while the smaller display in front of the driver will be removed. The model will also get revised buttons, but most of the functions can be controlled via the touchscreen. The knob switch for the automatic versions will move to the area just under the big round screen.

When will the 2024 Mini Cooper JCW arrive?

The new Mini Cooper JCW should be unveiled sometime in 2023, shortly after the standard Cooper version will arrive. Sales will begin right in time for the 2024 model year.
