While the A4 is available only in the Sedan and Allroad form in the U.S., other parts of the world benefit from a full-size A4 Avant, which is quite popular for its practicality and family-friendly nature. Here we have the latest spy shots of the upcoming Audi A4 Avant, and while it is not electrified quite yet. Audi might have plans to offer a plug-in hybrid variant of the A4 Avant with the 2024 model year. Most importantly, we are now confirming that Audi is redesigning all the A4 models, which include the Sedan, Allroad, and the Avant.

The upcoming A4 Avant will look bolder than it already is

The spy shots reveal that the prototype isn’t heavily camouflaged at the front. We that the front end is now sportier than the present-day A4 Avant. The headlights are now sleeker and the upper grille has become more compact. The LEDs are different and the DRLs look slimmer than before. The headlight design is pretty similar to the W206 C-Class, which is not what we were expecting. The lower bumper has a more prominent grille with a sensor in the center, meaning that the A4 Avant will have all the up-to-date ADAS functionalities.

In the tail section, the tail lamp design looks old-school with dual circular LEDS on both sides. Images of the side expose the SportContact 6 high-performance tires that are wrapped around 18-inch newly designed wheels. The overall size of the prototype seems to be similar to the current-selling A4 Avant.

A4 Avant Engine Options

Currently, the standard A4 Avant is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine in a range of different tunes that ranges from 136 horsepower to 204 horsepower. The S4 and RS4 are powered by six-cylinder engines and put out 349 horsepower and 450 horsepower via the Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

In the U.S., the standard A4 models pack a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine with mild-hybrid tech and a 261 horsepower rating. The S4 and the RS4 remain untouched globally, from the powertrain perspective. So with the upcoming A4 models, we are expecting new mild-hybrid powertrains for the European market and a global plug-in hybrid model. In the future, we might come to see full-fledged RS variants of the A4 with fully electric powertrains. The electric model will be underpinned VW’s upcoming PPE platform, and possess different styling elements and overall dimensions.
