It seems that the upcoming Porsche Cayman GT4 is extremely close to being reveled. Our latest spy shots of the new sports car->ke506 have nary a sign of camouflage scattered across the bodywork. Although, I suppose after accidentally leaking that car does truly exist on its own website, Porsche->ke1 decided it wasn’t worth the effort to cover the machine in camo.

While we know the car is coming, and that it will be called the GT4, we don’t know much about the new mid-engined machine. The engine will be more powerful, we are expecting upwards of 400 horsepower, making it the first time the car has ever eclipsed the 911,->ke282 and other running gear like brakes and wheels are getting upgraded. The wheel design on this car is unique, and looks to be quite light. Hiding behind those massive rollers are larger brakes, and I suspect that a carbon-ceramic brake option will be on the table.

We don’t know what kind of transmission will be on offer, but I am holding out hope that Porsche offers a manual. This year, Porsche moved the 911 GT3 exclusively to the PDK. I want the Cayman GT4 to be offered as a more traditional track toy with three pedals.

Visually there is little here that is new or unexpected. The nose has been made more aggressive with larger openings for better cooling, there is a small diffuser under the rear bumper, and then of course we have that massive wing. Our spy photos think that the wing will get some revisions before this car is debuted, but I am not sure if I agree with that. Be sure to sound off in the comments with your thoughts.

We will be sure to bring you a full, updated overview of the new Porsche Cayman GT4 just as soon as Porsche decides to make it officially official. Keep it locked to TopSpeed.com.

Why it matters

With the distinct lack of camo, it seems pretty obvious that the GT4 will make its official debut soon. This new sports car is one of the most dramatic changes Porsche has made to its lineup in more than 50 years. The 911 has always been the top performance machine in the Porsche family, and the Cayman has been artificially limited for years to keep it from stepping on the toes of its big brother.

With the Cayman GT4, Porsche is finally letting the car breath and increasing its performance to a level that everyone knows it is capable of. It still wont be faster than the majority of 911 models, but with close to 400 horsepower, it will at least surpass the lower-level Carrera->ke574 models.
