Supercar Tuner Novitec Begins Work on Ferrari Roma

The best-looking Ferrari now goes like the fastest Ferrari

LISTEN 03:07

Ferrari is known for many things, their incredible brand image, not winning a Formula 1 championship in nearly 13 years despite practically inventing the sport, selling comically over-priced luggage and keychains, and of course, producing some of the best supercars on Earth. However, the German tuner NOVITEC has just released their upgrade kits for the Ferrari Roma, and it should make the best-looking Ferrari currently on sale go even better than its looks.

Design

German tuners NOVITEC have gotten their hands on the Ferrari Roma.

In terms of the design of the NOVITEC Roma, only minimal changes have been made to the body, which is a good thing as the "normal" Roma was already absolutely beautiful. The front package includes a new grille, a front splitter, door mirror covers, and side skirts. For the rest of the car, NOVITEC added Vossen wheels (21-inches in the front and 22-inches in the rear), a lip spoiler, a new diffuser, and a small carbon fiber fin.

The subtle touches just barely make the Roma look that much better.

All of those parts are carbon fiber covered in a glossy coating to add shine and protect the carbon fiber itself. Apparently, they are not just to make the Roma look better either. NOVITEC said, "The NOVITEC designers went into the wind tunnel to develop a body styling kit that makes the Roma even more streamlined and aerodynamically efficient."

NOVITEC has not released any of the new aerodynamic statistics of a Roma with all these modifications, so take that statement with a grain of salt. Not that anyone buying this package will care that much of the drag coefficient marginally drops.

Power modifications and price

NOVITEC may be the first tuner to change the looks of a car and have them be an improvement.

The modifications to the 3.9-liter twin-turbo V-8 are almost exclusive to the ECU. All NOVITEC Romas will be fitted with a ’NOVITEC N-TRONIC’ engine management system that improves fuel injection, ignition, and plays with the boost pressure control.

All this results in a total output of 704 horsepower (518kW) and 650lb-ft (882Nm) of torque. That is 84 (61.8kW) more horsepower and almost 90lb-ft (122Nm) more torque than the basic Roma, allowing it to leap from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds and from 0-120 in just 8.9 seconds.

NOVITEC’s Roma makes 704 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque.

Suspension modifications in the form of sportier springs and stickier tires (255mm wide in the front and 315mm wide in the rear) are offered as well. Together they lower Roma’s ride height by 35 millimeters. Lucky for those insanely rich buyers, NOVITEC is also installing a front-end lift system that raises the nose by 40 millimeters when engaged.

It is good that these buyers are so wealthy because this kit costs...well, nobody knows exactly. NOVITEC never gave us an exact price, which probably means it is insanely expensive.
