Superperformance has long been regarded as one of the best in creating special replicas of legendary cars. Among their creations include such legendary vehicles like the Cobra->ke2263, Daytona Coupe->ke1351, and the GT40. While they hold special mention as being one of the best at what they do, their latest creation trumps anything they’ve ever done before. Anybody who’s ever heard of the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport knows that the car is steeped in racing lore as one of those vehicles that almost never came to fruition.

Designed by legendary Corvette->ke1280 engineer, Zora Arkus-Duntov, the 1963 Grand Sport was created out of secrecy after GM executives scoffed at the program for the original car – a car that was supposed to be purpose-built race car to win Sebring and Le Mans – and as a result, the whole program was forcibly scrapped – except for five prototypes that were already made at that time. Today, all five original cars are among the most sought-after vehicles among collectors all over the world.

Continued after the jump.

As far as the replica that Superformance has created, the company got their hands on the original blueprints and molds of the car and the folks at Superformance picked the prints and ran away with it, creating a virtual replica – except for the engine and transmission, of course – of the fabled race car.

The ‘cloned’ Grand Sport will come in a choice between a coupe and a roadster where its engines can be acquired through GM’s Performance Parts division. Superformance has yet to make announce the official date as to when the street version of the Grand Sport will be made available, although that it would be sometime in the middle of the next year.

Likewise, the car’s price tag has yet to be released, too. In any case, interested buyers can find more about the replica Grand Sport by calling Superformance at (949) 900-1950.

It goes without saying that even if it’s just a replica, Superformance’s take on the 1963 Corvette Grand Sport is about as close as you can get to the original ones – all five of them.
