The Audi RS6 is a supercar trapped in a family-hauler’s body. The V-8 engine makes 600 horses in this iteration and can sprint to 60 mph from rest in under four seconds! The wagon has proved time and again that you can have just one vehicle that can do family and work duties during the week and fulfill the adrenaline cravings over the weekends. It again arrived at a drag strip, courtesy of CarWow, to take on a sedan that’s overshadowed by the BMW M5 – the M550i. The M550i is a tamed version of the M5 and doesn’t get enough recognition. But, here’s a chance for the car to prove itself against a recognized drag strip champion, the Audi RS6. Which German do you think will win?

The BMW Has A Bigger Engine, Is Lighter, But Makes Fewer Horses

The Audi RS6 features a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine under the hood that puts out 600 horses and 590 pound-feet of torque. The oomph is channeled to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The BMW M550i is powered by a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V-8. It cranks 530 ponies and 553 pound-feet of twist. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

As for the weight, the BMW stands at 4,222 pounds, 353 pounds lighter than the 4,575-pound Audi RS6 Avant. Not to mention, both the vehicles have Launch Control.

How Do Square Up Against Each Other?

In the first drag race, both the cars started well off the line, but the RS6 was quicker and went ahead of the M550i pretty soon. It completed the quarter-mile race in 11.6 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the BMW. The host, Mat Watson, noted before the race that the RS6 performs better in damp conditions. So, would this have been much closer in dry conditions?

Next up was a rolling race from 50 mph in the Comfort settings. The Audi had a fantastic kickdown and got the lead right away. The BMW just couldn’t catch up, giving the wagon another win over the sedan. They went up against each other in one more rolling race, but this time in the Sport setting from 50 mph. However, it didn’t affect the result in any way.

The final round was the brake test from 70 mph. The Audi RS6 came to a halt in a shorter distance, thus giving it a 4-0 win over the BMW M550i.
