When we talk about classic muscle cars, the Dodge Charger is considered one of the ultimate. The car’s iconic status has prompted many custom shops to build reimagined versions of the mighty MOPAR, but one of the most unique builds has to be this 1970 Dodge Charger pro-touring car, featured in 2021 Fast and Furious 9. AutotopiaLA takes us on a tour of what is, arguably, one of the most unique MOPARs, ever built.

You may be thinking about the mid-engine Dodge Charger when it comes to MOPARS in Fast 9, but this reimagined 1970 Dodge Charger, designed by Sean Smith and built by Speedkore takes attention to detail on a whole other level. The muscle car is still powered by a big V-8, but it’s now a 9.0-liter Mercury boat engine. Thanks to a pair of twin, 94 mm turbochargers, the V-8 develops 1,300 horsepower on pump gas and 1,650 horsepower on race gas. All that is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec T56, six-speed manual transmission.

Needless to say, a lot of custom fabrication has been done to the car. The entire body has been remade out of carbon fiber and features a unique paint scheme. The front of the car is naked carbon fiber, featuring only the clear coat. As we get to the front wheel arches, it gradually fades into the black exterior finish. The chrome bumpers have been replaced with carbon-fiber equivalents while the taillight bar is, actually, inspired by the 1966 Charger. Last but not least, there's a center exhaust that, somehow manages to be both overkill and subtle.

The Tantrum is pure excess and its driving dynamics couldn’t make it more obvious. AutotopiaLA host, Shawn Davis, explains that even touching the throttle can cause the car to roast the rear tires when it's on boost. Custom shops are churning out plenty of high-end pro-touring builds, like the custom 1966 Chevelle we recently talked about. The 1970 Dodge Tantrum Charger is definitely up there with the likes of those, as it costs way over $600,000.

While the Charger can easily throw a tantrum if you are not being gentle with the throttle, the exquisite interior makes it a very competent daily driver. The build certainly isn’t new, as it dates back to 2016 when it was featured on Jay Leno’s Garage, but to this day, it’s one of the most unique-looking pro-touring muscle cars. It’s also, technically a Dodge Charger with a twin-turbo boat engine, and that just screams epic.
