The most powerful SLK-Class meets modifications

LISTEN 03:40

Unveiled at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show, the second generation SLK-Class was a marginal upgrade compared to the first-gen model. Besides the sportier looks, Mercedes added a faster mechanism for the retractable roof and Airscarf system, which enabled neck-level heating for both the driver and the front passenger. However, it was known from the start that an AMG variant would be offered with bonkers performance. So in collaboration with the Affalterbach-based performance division, Mercedes introduced the SLK55 with a brawny 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V-8. This 2009 iteration of the SLK55 AMG has been tuned and now comes with a supercharger and some raw performance.

Thanks to Modifications, this Black Series-Inspired SLK55 Looks Brand New

This 2009 SLK55 AMG is finished in all-black bodywork to mimic the Black Series limited edition models. This beautiful-looking piece of German engineering was acquired by the seller in 2016 and was modified under its previous ownership. The modifications include the addition of a Kleeman supercharger to the V-8, Black Series-inspired brakes, carbon-fiber trim, and suspension. In addition, the 19-inch ADV.1 wheels are aftermarket additions and wear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

The cabin continues the black-colored theme from the exterior and looks gorgeous with the carbon-fiber center console, dashboard, and gear selector trim. Also, the part-Alcantara part-carbon fiber steering wheel adds sportiness to the car. All the carbon fiber parts surrounding the cabin are part of the modifications. The AMG-branded bucket seats are power-adjustable and feature heating options. The digital odometer displays 17,000 miles, from which the current owner has added about 2,000 miles.

The powertrain has been modified to fit an aftermarket supercharger. The 5.4-liter V-8 powers the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The actual power figures remain unknown, but in its default state (without the supercharger), the V-8 can put out 355 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. The addition of the supercharger might have bumped the power figures by at least 40 horsepower if not more.

What makes the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class unique?

For a compact luxury roadster, the SLK-Class was never made to dominate the track. Nevertheless, it is one of the most popular drop-top roadsters ever made; in fact, it passed the 500,000 milestone in 2008 alone. The SLK-Class was a success among youngsters and enthusiasts because of its wide range of powertrain choices. Mercedes offered three engine choices, ranging from a supercharged four-cylinder to a powerful V-8. Apart from the performance, the coupe-esque SLK could turn into a topless convertible in a matter of 20-something seconds. Moreover, Mercedes pioneered the clever Vario-Roof electro-hydraulic roof folding system and made its way to the SLK-Class. This 2009 iteration of the SLK-Class is a full-fledged AMG model that has been modded to look and drive better than ever. So if you are thinking of considering this beast, we wouldn’t hesitate to say yes. Check it out on Bring A Trailer for yourself.
