The YouTube channel “Seen Through Glass” has done a good job at giving us a glimpse of some of the rarest cars we didn’t know or forgot about. A while back, we shared an article about a Porsche 996 40th Anniversary Edition and before that a Mercedes SLR McLaren MSO, both presented by the British YouTuber. This time, it’s not one but two rare versions of what some consider Ferrari’s best V-12 GT car – the Ferrari 599.

Two of the Rarest Ferrari 599 GTOs in Existence

Both rare cars are located at DK Engineering, where Sam – the host – does a quick walk-around and test drive. Arriving at the courtyard, we see the neatly positioned Ferraris and Sam assures us they are much more than just two 599s with special color schemes.

Starting with the first one, it’s a limited edition based on the Ferrari 599 GTB, called the 599 GTB 60 F1 Win.

Essentially, around the end of 2011, Ferrari realized that their first F1 win was in 1951, “with a driver called Gonzales”. It happened at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. 60 years later, their most recent win was also at Silverstone, with Fernando Alonso behind the wheel.

Sam makes a remark that, even though the 599 GTB 60 F1 Win was offered in a couple of different liveries, the less than 40 cars produced” were all ordered with the Alonso livery. The other two were “Gonzales livery”, which was Maroon Red, and the 50 F1 Win livery, which was similar to the 60 Year one, but without the white accents on the side. All 40-ish cars also had FF-style wheels, as well as handpainted white stripes, "Scuderia Ferrari" logos, and an Alonso signature.

Inside, you are treated to white carbon-fiber dash accents, racing harnesses, and seats done in a special material that will “grab you and hold you in place”.

The second car is more performance-oriented, as it’s based on the more hardcore Ferrari 599 GTO.

This is one of the first “tailor-made” cars before even Ferrari called the program “tailor-made. Essentially, it’s a highly personalized “go crazy” variant, based on the 599 GTO. The first thing you notice is the “Blue Ghibli Cup” paint, which actually celebrates the Maserati Ghibli. That’s the main highpoint of the exterior really.

Oh yes, there’s a white rev-counter as well. The blue 599 GTB is a left-hand drive and was initially delivered to a customer in Japan. Then, at some point, it got back to the UK.

Price-wise, the 599 GTB 60 F1 Win edition can set you back three or four times the cost of a regular 599 GTB. Although we aren’t given exact figures, it is believed that the tailor-made 599 GTO also costs significantly more than the regular car.

Sam quickly proves that the 599 GTO can make you act like a hooligan. Despite the “low fuel” warning, he steps on it, pissing off a couple of cyclists, who make some “nice” remarks about the Ferrari driver. Sam, however, carries on and upon finding himself in a tunnel, he does the obligatory revving procedure, almost giving a passing old lady a heart attack. It just goes to prove that a normally-aspirated V-12 Ferrari is, indeed, capable of taking your breath away.
