The newest “member” of Team HUMMER Racing debuts this weekend at the “Best in the Desert” Racing Association's 2006 “Terrible’s Town 250” competition in Pahrump, Nev. on Saturday, April 29. The all-new 2006 HUMMER H1 Alpha Pick-up will make its first attempt at the 250-mile trek and be piloted by six-time Baja 1000 winner, Chad Hall.

“The H1 is in its element while racing over the most brutal desert terrain, ” said Hall. “The combination of the Duramax turbo diesel and Allison automatic with the H1’s off-road capability should make the H1 Alpha the ultimate stock desert race truck .”

The H1 has been an integral part of Team HUMMER since 1993, when it was debuted by Rod Hall and Chad Hall in the Baja 1000. The Halls finished first and second with the H1s in that race, and Team HUMMER has been piloting the H1 to countless Baja 1000 and “Best in the Desert” race victories ever since.

Team HUMMER competes in the Full Stock class, which features production-based vehicles with stock frames, stock suspension designs and production-based engines. Specialized racing shock absorbers, tires and other minor modifications are allowed, along with a litany of supporting components and mandatory safety equipment.

The Team HUMMER H1 Alpha received only minor modifications in preparation for the Terrible’s Town 250. The suspension system was slightly modified with unique spring rates and larger specialized shock absorbers. The truck rides on 39-inch tires, compared to the 37-inch tires of the stock H1 Alpha and the stock 6.6L V-8 Duramax turbo-diesel benefits from a calibration change, designed to increase output.

The all-new 2006 HUMMER H1 Alpha, featuring GM’s award-winning 300 horsepower Duramax 6600 turbo diesel V-8 and Allison automatic transmission is the first in HUMMER’s new performance series and represents the single greatest advance in the 14-year history of the original HUMMER. The H1 Alpha delivers more power, more torque, and enhanced on- and off-road capability, with significantly improved fuel economy. It represents HUMMER performance taken to its ultimate extension.

For more than a decade, The Hall Family and Team HUMMER have piloted HUMMER's into the top spots of some of the off-road racing circuit's most grueling and technical courses, including 10 victories at the SCORE Baja 1000 since 1993.
