The Cybertruck’s glass-shattering saga will remain fresh in our minds for a very long time. It’s not because of what happened on stage, but because Musk and his team don’t want us to forget.

Tesla is channeling all the hype it has received through memes and internet jokes into merchandise sales. On that note, the company is launching a new T-shirt featuring the incident, along with other Cybertruck-themed apparels and accessories. This is modern marketing 101 right here. The only downside - it'll set you back by $45.

It Will Surely Sell Like Hot Cakes

Even non-enthusiasts are now aware of the Cybertruck, thanks to this incident. In fact, whenever I mention the Cybertruck to my non-enthusiast friends, they recollect it as the 'broken glass truck.' That’s the impact this one incident has had over millions across the globe. Instead of apologizing and coming up with a sheepish excuse for it, Tesla decided to laugh off the incident and turn it into a revenue-generating opportunity.

The website describes the product as 'designed for exceptional comfort and inspired by the Cybertruck unveil event, the Cybertruck Bulletproof Tee is made from 100% cotton and features our signature Cybertruck icon on the back.' Tesla is selling this simple t-shirt for $45 a pop. Talk about cashing in on a supposedly unfortunate incident! Other than the t-shirt, the website also lists a Cybertruck Graffiti Hoodie and a Trucker Hat, priced at $90 and $40 respectively.

What’s The Theme?

To refresh your memory, Musk claimed the Cybertruck’s windows to be shatter-proof during its launch. To demonstrate that, Musk called Tesla’s lead designer, Franz von Holzhausen on the stage to test it by throwing a steel ball at the glass. The glass, however, couldn’t bear the impact and ‘webbed,’ although it did not break completely.

The same was repeated on the other window and the result was the same. In fact, Musk was heard saying 'Oh my f***ing God' right after the mishap. But that didn’t deter people from reserving the truck by paying a fully-refundable deposit of $100. The truck was deemed to be a super-hit as it raked in over 250,000 reservations within a few days of its launch.

Final Thoughts

I’m of the belief that the incident was staged. There are reports which suggest the sledgehammer shots to the door panels weakened the windows and that caused the mishap. But, knowing Musk, this could’ve been a planned incident and seemed like a calculated risk. If it indeed was, kudos to Musk as he is reaping benefits in all ways possible. Now, the only thing left to do is release that bottle of Teslaquila.
