That Car Sitting Under The Sheets is The Toyota Supra Racing Concept
We’ve waited long enough for this moment to arriveby Kirby, on
In case there are still doubts about the Toyota Supra’s hyped up 2018 Geneva Motor Show appearance, a new video taken from the show’s floor reveals what might very well be the concept we’ve been waiting years to see. The Supra concept is not packaged in the traditional way of a concept, but it should still give us a good preview of the returning sports car. Lord knows that we have waited long enough and Toyota owes us a chance to finally see the return of the Supra name. From the way it looks, it appears that we’re a few days away from Toyota finally coming through on its word. The Toyota Supra concept is finally here.

There are a few things we need to point out before we start getting a little too excited about this car. The first thing is that the concept is a racing concept. It’s being called the Toyota Supra Racing Concept and, judging by how the sheet is resting on the car, we could be looking at a dramatic race car with a massive rear wing at the back. We also get a good look at the lower section of the concept, specifically the front fascia where a carbon fiber front lip is clearly visible. Squint your eyes, and you can also see large canards on the front bumper, lightweight center-locking wheels, and what appear to be high-performance Michelin tires. Throw in some styling notes culled from the FT-1 Concept, and we could be looking at the official preview of the Supra before the production sports car is revealed.
The car also features a red and white color scheme, which also happens to be the two colors that makeup Toyota’s identity. There could be some hints of black trim throughout the car, too. That could be a nod to Gazoo Racing’s involvement in the development of the performance concept. Gazoo’s involvement could also bring life back to early rumors that the Supra will actually be launched under the Gazoo brand.

On the performance side of things, details are still sketchy on what kind of powertrain it’s going to carry, but recent reports have pinned down the engine as a 3.0-liter, turbocharged, inline six that will produce 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Combine that with the car’s expected weight — under 1,500 kilos (3,306 pounds) — and we could be looking at a game-changing sports car from Toyota that can bring prestige back to the Supra name.
Whatever happens, we know now that Toyota has a major debut in store for the Geneva Motor Show. We can’t wait to see what it is.
