Seven seats? Sounds good

SEAT has unveiled its new flagship model, the Tarraco SUV, with up to seven seats and distinctive styling. It’s an important addition to the range, as it moves the new design language forward and takes the brand into a completely new market segment.

Under the Tarraco’s stylish, sculptural body lies the VW group’s MQB-A long-wheelbase platform, which is shared with the Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tiguan Allspace.

The engines are also from VW, and include gasoline and diesel, with power ratings between 150 and 190 metric horsepower. All-wheel drive is available on more powerful versions, and a seven-speed DSG is also available.

Full LED headlights come as standard on both of the two trims offered, and SEAT actually says it only uses LEDs for all exterior as well as interior lighting. Inside, it all looks and feels distinctly VW-esque, but it does have character. There’s also a configurable 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster that adds a lot to that with its great graphics, and the same can be said of the central 8.0-inch infotainment screen with proximity hand detection.

The Tarraco can carry up to seven people and can compete with other similarly sized SUVs, and also promises to deliver a smooth ride quality.

Although as a SEAT, it may be a bit stiffer in its suspension setup compared to related models. Plenty of safety tech is also included, with lane and front assist systems which also feature bicycle and pedestrian detection come as standard on all models.

SEAT places the Tarraco firmly at the top of its entire range, not only the biggest SUV it sells, with the Ateca and Arona slotting in under it. Pre-sales of the model in Europe start this December, so deliveries of the Wolfsburg-built Tarraco could begin towards the middle of 2019.
