Huracan EVO makes its awesome soundtrack more audible

Lamborghini has revealed the soft top version of last year’s Huracan Evo coupe, the 2019 Huracan Evo Spyder. It is exactly the same car, but with the extra weight of its folding roof, its acceleration is slightly affected - but what you gain on the other hand is limitless headroom and a better earful of its glorious naturally aspirated V-10 engine.

The Huracan Evo Spyder is 0.2 seconds behind the coupe in the sprint to 100 km/h or 62 mph, achieving it in 3.1 seconds.

Top speed isn’t affected, though, so it’s the same 325 km/h or 202 mph.

This performance comes courtesy of a 5.2-liter V10 with 630 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 600 Nm or 443 pound-feet of torque at 6,000 rpm - the very best thing about this engine is that it revs past 8,500 rpm and makes noises that could only really be described using wild animal comparisons.

It’s slower to sprint because of the extra 120 kilograms / 264 pounds it has to carry around - 1,542 kilograms / 3,400 pounds versus 1,422 kg / 3,135 pounds.

The roof can be operated at speeds up to 50 km/h or 31 mph, and it takes 17 seconds to open or close.

However, this isn’t a Huracan you buy just to pose in and drive slowly - it begs to be driven hard even more so than the standard drop-top Huracan. Lamborghini says it has five times more downforce compared to a regular Spyder - a figure that’s achieved through the use of a new front bumper and splitter combo, as well as repositioned exhausts that allow for a redesigned underbody with better airflow.

Just like the coupe, this Spyder is fitted with a new 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, but it’s the new functions you can access through it that are really noteworthy. You could tailor how the car behaved before, but now this has a more noticeable impact because the car has rear-wheel steering, as well as upgraded magneto rheological suspension to go along with the aforementioned aero.
