With all eyes pointed to the Toyota Supra and Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 unveiled at the 2019 Detroit Motor Show, McLaren debuted a new member of the Longtail family. Meet the 600LT Spider, the drop-top version of the 600LT, the first Sports Series model to wear the Longtail badge.

600LT with Infinite Headroom

As expected, the Spider is identical to the coupe when the roof is in place. That's because it has a hard-top instead of a more traditional soft-top. When the top is down, you can use an electrically-operated, glazed wind deflector to increase or reduce ventilation inside the cabin.

Similar Performance

The Spider is 110 pounds heavier than the Coupe, tipping the scales at 2,859 pounds dry. The extra weight comes from the electrically operated top. No additional strengthening was required to maintain full structural rigidity, and that's why the Spider delivers similar performance to the Coupe.

Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph is on par with 600LT Coupe at only 2.8 seconds, while the sprint to 124 mph takes two tenths longer at 8.4 seconds.

Compared to the 570S Spider, the 600LT is three tenths quicker to 60 mph and 1.2 seconds quicker to 124 mph. Top speed drops by three mph compared to the 600LT Coupe, but it's 5 mph higher than the 570S Spider.

Lighter than the Competition

It's also lighter than the competition, with McLaren claiming a reduction of at least 176 pounds compared to similar sports cars. It doesn't provide a specific comparo, but the 600LT Spider is a whopping 300 pounds lighter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

How Much for One?

That's a $16,500 premium over the Coupe, which isn't surprising at all. Compared to the 570S Spider, the 600LT fetches almost $50,000 more.
