Unfortunately, it won’t make it to the U.S.

Just as the hype was dying down after the 2019 BMW 3 Series’ launch at the Paris Motor Show, BMW has reignited interest in its latest new model. As per a report from L’Automobile Magazine, the German automaker will be unveiling 3 Series Touring at the Geneva Motor Show in March of next year. Actually, it’s not that much of a surprise because the touring has been sold for almost as long as the sedan.

Heart Of The Matter

The wagon will be supposedly one of the main attractions at the event. This is actually a trend that BMW follows; launch the sedan first and then the Touring guise in a few months. Going by this, the Geneva Motor Show is the next biggest event, and should most likely be the place of launch.

Coming to the Touring, it will be just like the sedan. It will have the same engine options, interior, and even the appearance – except the rear, of course.

In fact, even the design of the tail lamps will be the same, as seen by some recent patent drawings. However, BMW has decided not to bring the Touring to U.S. shores due to declining sales numbers, and the execs decided to not keep the car in its otherwise well-selling lineup.

So, if this breaks your heart, better go and book the F31 Touring. Apparently, that also is going out of production in June 2019. Going by this, the whole timeline makes sense. A car is generally unveiled a few months before going into production; in the Touring’s case, March 2019. By the time the production of the Touring begins, the F31 Touring will be retired.

Our Take

The BMW 3 Series Touring has been a vital product in the lineup across the world, but since crossovers have taken over the reins, especially in the U.S., wagons find themselves in a vulnerable position. There is a possibility that this might be the last Touring from BMW. Do you think the market for wagons will sustain by the time the next-gen 3 Series is launched?
