Land Rover has been working on the Defender project for over five years now, and from an exterior perspective, it seems like a long time for a vehicle to be developed and for that development to not be completed. But the all-new Defender is now in the final stretch, which is why we’ve been teased with a shot of a camouflaged prototype for the first time.

But, while the vehicle has been in the works for years now with literally everybody on the scene knowing about it, details on the upcoming model are rather scarce, and some information is conflicting. For instance, most media outlets seem to suggest it will be underpinned by Land Rover’s new Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA), but in fact, it won’t, although it will ditch the old style body-on-frame construction for a more modern monocoque approach.

But its structure will use a lot of aluminum components that's for sure, and the aluminum will be made visible in certain places around the car, both inside and out in order to showcase the use of the material.

As the recent teaser suggests, the Defender will be “unwrapped” in 2019 and we believe that Land Rover will be revealing the model in September of next year, which means the venue chosen for its reveal is the 2019 Frankfurt motor show, officially known as “IAA Cars Frankfurt 2019” which opens its doors to the press on September 9.
