The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E might be famous for being the first Mustang with an SUV body, but it’s much more than that. On top of being the most efficient electric car created by Ford so far, it also introduces a brand-new version of the company’s SYNC infotainment system, which comes with a massive 15.5-inch touchscreen. If you want to find out how future Fords will look inside the cabin, take a good peek inside the 2021 Mustang Mach-E.
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E features a state-of-the-art infotainment system
We won’t get to sit in the Mach-E and test this new system anytime soon, but Ford promises it’s far better than the old SYNC unit.
The new-gen infotainment ditches complicated menus, so it's simpler to access features by simply touching, swiping, or pinching on the screen.
It’s also more intuitive than before and supports heavier personalization.
Ford says that it has the ability to learn and adapt, which means that it probably includes artificial intelligence, just like Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX system. Also similar to Mercedes-Benz and even Tesla, this new infotainment system keeps itself up-to-date with over-the-air updates. A feature that used to be exclusive to Tesla some years ago is now becoming more common and Ford is among the first companies to incorporate it. That’s good news given that the Mustang Mach-E will go against the Tesla Model Y.
All told, the new SYNC will keep you connected all the time and will be as simple to operate as a really good smartphone. Of course, it will also provide you access to data about the electric drivetrain and you’ll be able to control how it charges and select from the available driving modes.
The display of the infotainment system is bigger than ever. The tablet-style screen, also apparently inspired by Tesla, has a diagonal measurement of 15.5-inches. Yes, it’s as big as a small laptop and extends over the entire height of the dashboard and acts as a center stack.
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E has a fully digital, high-tech interior
The 15.5-inch display is clearly the main highlight inside the cabin, but the Mustang Mach-E also comes with a fully digital instrument cluster.
But unlike most cars, the display isn’t integrated into the dashboard under a hood. Ford ditched this old design feature and went with an open layout in which the display simply sits on top of the dash. Because it’s long and flat, it sits lower than the traditional hood, so visibility isn’t an issue from behind the steering wheel.
The digital-heavy dash is nicely complemented by a simple, clean design. The two-tier dashboard has a flat upper section, while the center unit is a continuous AC vent strip that runs from one corner to the other. It even runs behind the steering wheel since the instrument cluster is thinner than usual. The two-tone finish, the soft surfaces, and the organic design give the entire fascia a premium look.
Despite the lack of official data about the instrument cluster, the infotainment system, and the interior features, it sure seems like the Mustang Mach-E will have what it takes to give the Tesla Model Y a run for its money in this department.
