We’ve seen a lot of drag races where the McLaren 720S absolutely demolished its competition. The combination of lightness and power delivery touches on perfection inside McLaren’s go-fast machine, but as you’ll see in the video, there’s a particular German manufacturer that, too, knows a couple of things when it comes to building a sports car.

Sports car or supercar?

Recently, we stumbled upon a video published on YouTube by Auto Bild Sportscars, where the 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S is being but through its paces on the race track.

Now, at 2:35, the video is not the longest nor the most elaborated ever made, but it delivers content in a no-nonsense fashion.

Speaking of which, the first part of the clip focuses on the 911 Turbo S’ ability to zap from a standstill. As you’ll see, the Neunelfer needs just 2.5 seconds for the 0-100 kph (62 mph) sprint and 8.5 seconds to clear the 0-200 kph (124 mph) interval. However, that’s not what caught our eye.

After the hot lap, towards the end of the video, we’re getting a comparison of various lap times recorded on the Sachsenring. What’s more, the Turbo S is also quicker on the same track than the likes of Lamborghini Huracan Evo (1:30.94) and Ferrari 488 GTB (1:30.99).

Final word

The McLaren 720S makes 710 horsepower. The 992-gen 911 Turbo S cranks out 640 horsepower. While these numbers are close, there are more variables behind a hot lap comparison. Air and track temperature at the time of the run count, as well as who was behind the wheel. Tires also play an important role.

And while this sort of cars will almost never come out perfectly even from a track battle, it doesn’t mean one’s necessary better than the other. After all, the rear winners are those who get to drive them, don’t you think?
