Just a few weeks ago, Toyota announced that the 2021 Toyota Supra would be even more powerful (and faster) than the 2020 Supra. Then a week or so later, it did its best to justify sticking it to the folks that bought a 2020 model. Now, however, we’re finding out that the 2021 Supra (the inline-six model, of course) really puts down 388 horsepower at the wheels – 11 ponies more than Toyota’s newly advertised 377 horsepower figure. So, what does this really mean? Well, the true power of the 2021 Toyota Supra could be approaching the 450 horsepower mark at the crank, and that’s a huge bump in power.

The 2021 Toyota Supra Really Delivers Close to 450 HP

Last year there were two independent dyno tests ran on the 2020 Toyota Supra. In the first test, we found that the 2020 model put down some 339 horsepower at the wheels (4 ponies more than it should have at the crank) and the second test came out with similar results at 332 horsepower at the wheels.

In C&D’s dyno run, the 2021 Toyota Supra (video embedded above) put down an impressive 388 horsepower at the wheels, 11 horsepower more than advertised at the crank. That means that BMW’s B58 – the engine found in the Supra – is capable of hitting S55 M-Division numbers.

To make the Supra more powerful for 2021, Toyota adding a new dual-branch exhaust manifold and redesigned the pistons to achieve a different compression ratio (10.2:1 as opposed to 11:1). So, in essence, Toyota has managed to make the Supra just as powerful as the BMW Z4 it’s based on, and that’s good news for anyone who didn’t buy a 2021 model.
