We knew for quite some time now that 2022 will bring a new generation BMW M2. It will actually be one of the launches that will mark BMW’s M division's 50-year anniversary. And, while we have seen a lot of spy shots of the next M2, the latest one reveals a few more secrets.

First of all, we knew for quite some time now that the next BMW M2 will not get the big controversial grille that we've seen on the M3 and the M4.} However, the new spy shots are also giving away the design of the front spoiler and the shape of the headlights. As you can see, they are different in terms of shape when compared to the regular BMW 2 Series.

At the rear, there is a lip spoiler similar to the one from the M Performance model, and an exhaust system that ends with two pipes on each side.

Under the hood, there will be the same 3.0-liter inline-six engine seen in the M3 and the M4, but detuned to about 400 horsepower in the regular M2 and maybe up to 430 horsepower in the M2 Competition model. Also, despite previous rumors, the next M2 will continue on as an RWD-only model and will be offered with both, automatic and manual transmission.

Expect to see the new generation BMW M2 sometime before the end of 2022.
