Until recently our spy photographers were only able to catch prototypes of the future BMW M4 CSL out for various testing sessions. But today, for the first time, they also spotted a prototype of the future M3 CSL, and, the best part: it was caught testing around Nürburgring.

The next M3 CSL will be identical to the M4 CSL, except for, of course, the extra door. So, it should come as no surprise that the two prototypes are nearly identical. The camouflaged M3 CSL shows the new M4 CSL grill as well as the front bumper with the new air intakes. You can also spot the new light graphic with the permanent yellow daylight running lights, like the M5 CS.

One thing we do not understand is why the rear windows are camouflaged, but it might be because BMW is trying to his a roll cage inside.

At the back, the only difference when compared to a regular M3 is the enlarged rear spoiler and diffuser.

The CSL is mostly about making the car lighter, so you should expect the M3 CSL to be about 150 pounds lighter than the current M3 Competition.

Under the hood, you will find the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six with the output increased from the current 503 to maybe 530 horsepower, but not more than that, for sure.

Expect the new BMW M3 CSL to be launched before the end of 2022.
