BMW has a long and proud history in racing, particularly so in GT racing. With this in mind, BMW’s Motorsport division just announced that its new racecar, the BMW M4 GT4, officially goes on sale. BMW’s latest GT4 racer was unveiled in preparation for the SRO race weekend at the Virginia International Raceway (USA). The latest iteration of BMW’s GT4 racecar is set to continue the German brand’s success in the GT4 category, and from 2023, private teams will be able to purchase the M4 GT4 and put it straight to work in the racing series.

The 2023 BMW M4 GT4 takes over from the previously-successful M4 GT4, based on the F82 generation. That one managed to score 33 wins and over 100 podiums since it was released in the GT series in 2018. In true BMW M tradition, the new M4 GT4 is an improvement in every aspect. Not only that, BMW M GmbH engineers have placed emphasis on ease of maintenance. The road version of the M4 G82 has already proven an immensely capable platform and the GT4 racing version will feature some hardware from its bigger brother, the M4 GT3.

The BMW M4 GT4 car was seen racing in camouflage at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife test race, but was finally unveiled in its new M livery, after completing testing at Almeria, Spain, last week. The automaker has made use of carbon fiber parts around the body, with the most prominent ones being the lightweight roof and the rear wing that it has borrowed from the GT3 race car. There is a huge front splitter and canards to help with the car’s aero efficiency. As for the dimensions, it measures 191.5 inches in length, 82.4 inches in width, and 53.9 inches in height, variable. The wheelbase is 112.5 inches long.

It also features a production ECU. Power is routed to the rear wheels exclusively, via a ZF seven-speed automatic gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

The M4 GT4’s potent powertrain is mated to a fully-adjustable suspension with two-way adjustable dampers and with three different spring rates. There are five-level adjustable anti-roll bars at the front and rear, which work in conjunction with the springs and dampers. Other features include front and rear camber adjustable suspension with shims, with the ability to adjust the rear toe angle. There's also a 10-stage traction control system and dual-channel brake cooling.

While it is pretty darn fancy and poles apart from the standard M4 on the outside, it is the features offered on the inside that surprise us. For what’s supposed to be a stripped-down car, it comes with quite a few amenities. Engineers have spent a great deal of time improving the ergonomics of the M Track cockpit, which now has all the systems and checks, built-in thus saving you the time-consuming process of connecting a laptop.

BMW M Motorsport has been partnering with some of the best names in the business, including H&R, Puma, Recaro, and Ravenol, which have contributed to the successful creation of a race-winning GT4 racer. The BMW M4 GT4 is priced at €187,000, which is approximately $197,700 as per the exchange rates at the time of writing this article. Given what’s on offer, the BMW M4 GT4 is quite a bargain, considering the GT3 model was offered at €415,000 (approx. $436,500).

The M4 GT4 will enter production in October, but before that, it will participate in the Nürburgring Endurance Series and in the 24 Hours of Portimã as part of its final testing phase. The German automaker noted that the M4 GT4 race car is eligible to participate in all GT4 races across the world. The first cars will reach the teams before the start of the 2023 season.
