Tesla enjoyed its supremacy in the electric car market for quite a while. But, things will change in the future as more and more automakers are starting to add electric cars to their lineup. Hyundai, for example, started by offering the Ioniq 5, and will continue with a series of other models using the same "Ioniq" nomenclature. Right now, we know that the Ioniq 6 will follow, but Hyundai plans to transform the "Ioniq" into a sub-brand in the near future.

Unlike the Ioniq 5, the future Ioniq 6 will be a sedan with its design inspired by the Prophecy concept. Last month, it was caught testing on the German roads, and today, it has been taken to the Arctic Circle for some winter testing. Our spy photographers were at the right place to take some pictures, and, as you can see from the pictures, the test driver wasn't very happy about it!

Of course you shouldn't expect the Ioniq 6 to be as wild as the concept version since it will be tweaked to become road-legal. It could perhaps be a sweet blend of the Prophecy Concept and the Ioniq 5's design. Still, it should be a serious competitor to the Tesla Model 3.

The powertrain and battery packs will most likely be borrowed from the Ioniq 5 - single- or dual-motor setups, and two different battery packs – 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh.

The new Ioniq 6 will be revealed in early 2023 and it should start at around $10k more than the Ioniq 5, which starts at $39,700.
