It looks like Mercedes-Benz is very serious about hybridizing its future lineup, including all its AMG models too. it seems that the last model to follow this path is the AMG version of the next generation E-Class.

Our spy photographers caught what seems to be the future AMG E53e out for a first testing session in the cold winter conditions of the Arctic Circle.

So, why could this be the future AMG E53e? First of all, it is an AMG model because of the four-round end exhaust pipes. Then, it is for sure a hybrid model because the charging port is visible on the left rear fender. The question is, however, what engine will the next AMG E53e come with?

There are actually a few possibilities for the next E53e. First will be the same engine that will be used for the

a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine combined with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology, that, in the C63, is rumored to deliver 643 horsepower. The next option will be the same 4.0-liter, twin-turbo, V-8 engine used in the new generation SL. In the SL53, it delivers 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, while in the SL63, the final output goes up to 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.
