A few days ago we brought you the first spy pictures of what seemed to be a Peugeot 308 SUV. It was actually more of a strange-looking, high-riding 308 based mule, than an actual prototype, but it made us wonder what's Peugeot preparing.

Today, we have a more clear answer for you: we have for you the first spy shots of the 2023 Peugeot 4008. Yes, the same 308 based SUV Coupe rumored to take on cars like Renault Arkana.

The prototype still looks a lot like a Peugeot 308 with higher ground clearance, but its exterior design also reminds us of the 2022 Citroen C5 X.

Our spy photographers were able to shoot the car from various angles, so you can make a very good idea of the car's proportions. There is even a picture where you can kind of see the interior because the driver forgot to close the door. While it does not reveal much, you can clearly see the design of the door trim and the steering wheel.

Also, if you have any doubts if this is a Peugeot SUV, look closely and you will notice that one pictures shows the undisguised Peugeot logo on the grille.

While the future Peugeot 4008 is still in the first development stages, rumors suggest it will be offered with a PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine, combined with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. There are also rumors talking about a plug-in hybrid system that could develop between 180- and 250 horsepower, but also a more powerful, Hybrid4 version that will develop around 300 horsepower.

The new Peugeot 4008 is expected to be unveiled sometime in 2023, with sales commencing shortly after.
