You should know by now that Volkswagen not only killed the Passat in the States in an attempt to focus on SUV and electric cars, but also killed the Passat sedan altogether all across the globe. The new-generation Passat will only be offered as a station wagon. A few prototypes were already caught testing during cold winter conditions, and now, our spy photographers caught a new prototype out for a testing session in Scandinavia.

As mentioned before, the new-generation Passat will be only be offered as a station wagon as the notchback will be replaced by the fully electric Aero B. But, that's fine since the station wagon is already the most successful version of the Passat in Europe.

What we already know about the new Passat is that it will grow in size in order to offer more space in the second row and offer an improved cargo room. This decision was made since the new Passat will be built next to the Skoda Superb in the same factory in Bratislava, Slovakia. We do know that the Superb is a champion when it comes to interior space, so why not rub a little of that magic on the Passat, right?

As for the engine lineup, we expect the new Passat to be offered with petrol, diesel, and mild and plug-in hybrid mills.

Expect the new generation Passat to be launched sometime in 2023, with the popular Alltrack version following it a few months later.
