When Audi unveiled the A6 e-Tron Concept, we knew that a production version will be out in just a matter of months. And, it seems that we were right, as our spy photographers were able to catch the first A6 e-Tron prototype out for a testing session.

The new A6 e-Tron will be developed in the same time with the facelift A6, and will be launched a few months after the Q6 E-Tron SUV.

Updated 01 - 03/15/2022: Our spy photographers were able to catch mare spy shots of the next A6 e-tron revealing more details on the next electric car. From the new pictures it is clear that the A6 e-tron won't be a traditional sedan, but rather a liftback with a big opening to the trunk. Does this remind you of the original Audi 100 Avant?

From these not-so-revealing spy shots, we can notice that the A6 e-Tron will retain the same sportback-like shape as the concept, but both the headlights and the taillights will be different. While in the concept car, Audi went with Matrix LED headlights, it seems that in the production version, it opted for the split headlight design - a move that makes the production version A6 e-tron not-so-sexy. However, remember this is just a first prototype, so a lot will probably change in the next few months.

The production version A6 e-tron will be Audi's second model built on the Premium Electric Platform (PPE) - a modular platform developed exclusively for electric vehicles by Porsche, Audi, and Bentley. This new platform promises to offer both quicker charging, but also better range.

The first rumors on the next A6 e-Tron suggest it will be powered by a pair of electric motors - one on each axle - that will deliver a combined output of 469 horses and 590 pound-feet of torque. Also, we know that all the vehicles built on the PPE architecture will come an 800-volt charging technology as standard and most likely a 100 kWh battery. This will help deliver a total range of 435 miles according to the WLTP cycle.

The new Audi A6 e-tron is expected to be unveiled in late 2023, with sales to begin in 2024.
