As we previously said, the Nürburgring test season has started! This means that in the next few weeks we are going to see a lot of future cars being tested around the famous ring.

Today, for example, our spy photographers brought us pictures of two cars that were pushed to their limits around Nürburgring: the 911 Hybrid, and now, the M5 Hybrid!

In the past few months, the next BMW M5 Hybrid has been caught testing many times, which could mean that BMW might try to rush the sports sedan's development. As you can see, the prototype caught testing today is still wearing a lot of camouflage and, so far, BMW was able to keep details on the next M5 a secret, but we do know a few things about it now.

First of all, the next M5 will be a hybrid. Rumors suggest it will be offered with the same V-8 dual electric motor plug-in hybrid powertrain that will be used in the future XM SUV. In the SUV, the combined output is 750 horsepower, and, if it will also be carried over to the M5, it will mean that the next-generation sports sedan will deliver more than 150 horsepower over the current generation. Also, it will put cars like the next Mercedes-AMG E63 into a lot of trouble, since Mercedes only plans to put 643 horses under the next E63's hood.

As for its looks, the next M5 Hybrid will be a lot wider than the standard 5 Series and it is very unlikely that it will get the same huge grille we've seen in the M3/M4. Also, as you can see, the prototype testing around Nürburgring wears different wheels when compared to the other prototypes, but the brakes are still huge.

The new generation BMW M5 is expected to be unveiled in 2023, with sales to begin in 2024.
