The eighth-generation Ford Mustang has been the subject of rumors for a very long time, and an official debut will finally happen on September 14, 2022 – the first day of the Detroit motor show. The new generation Mustang - internally known as the S650, will be updated inside and, while retaining the current engine lineup, it will offer some significant performance improvements. A recent report from Ford Authority reveals that the updated V-8 engine should deliver as much as 500 horsepower in at least one configuration.

2024 Ford Mustang Performance - Real Expectations

For the 2022 model year, Mustangs equipped with the 5.0-liter V-8 Coyote engine lost 10 horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque due to changes dictated by emissions requirements. But Ford will fix this with the new generation Mustang, as the V-8 engine will now deliver 500 horsepower in at least one configuration. This means the 2024 Mustang will deliver 50 horsepower over the 2022 Mustang GT and 30 horsepower over the 2022 Mustang Mach 1. While it is unclear at this point which version will get this updated V-8 engine, the 500 horsepower would represent a significant boost over the current models. Ford will also continue to offer the current 2.3-liter inline-four EcoBoost engine, with hybridization available for both the EcoBoost and the V-8 engine being prepared for future model years. Also, while previous reports indicated that the new Mustang will be offered with an all-wheel-drive system, it seems that won’t be the case at all.

S650 Mustang Appearance

All the 2024 Mustang prototypes caught testing revealed that the new generation won’t look radically different from the current one. You should expect an updated front and rear fascia, but the new Mustang will be very similar to the model it replaces. The only thing that will change drastically will be the cabin, as Ford needs to keep up with the times. There will be a new flat-bottom steering wheel, a new digital instrument cluster design, and a larger infotainment screen.

2024 Ford Mustang Launch Date

The 2024 Ford Mustang will make its world debut on September 14, 2022, with sales to begin in 2023. The model will continue to be built at the Flat Rock Assembly plant and should stay in production for about eight years. Just like with the current model, prices will start from around $30k. There will also be an electric Mustang, but that won't happen in the next few years.
