Lately, automotive companies have deprived us the opportunity of driving luxury vehicles with manual transmission. However, Hyundai's premium marque, Genesis, is doing its bit to save the 'tradition.' The 2019 Genesis G70 debuts in the U.S. and it will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission to quench the thirst of the three-pedal enthusiasts.

A hit or a miss?

While this entry-level model comes with a couple of engine options, those equipped with a manual transmission are limited to a 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder that produces 252 horses and 259 pound-feet of torque. This is a bit of a letdown since the automatic model comes with the 3.3-liter six-cylinder that generates 365 horses and 376 pound-feet of torque. A manual transmission would've made this a complete package and given the G70 a strong advantage. Hope you're listening, Genesis.

Our Take

The G70 is a decent car, but there was nothing exclusive about it. Customers preferred to choose from the three Germans over the Genesis. With the manual transmission on offer, the G70 will surely be a potential contender for those on the lookout for a manual luxury car. That being said, Genesis could have made the G70 an all-rounded package by offering the manual with the more powerful mill. Also, those equipped with a manual transmission are also limited to rear-wheel drive while those with an automatic are offered with AWD. Perhaps, the manual was launched in the base model to counter the competition in terms of pricing and make it look like a value-for-the-money proposition. Nevertheless, this could surely give the G70 the boost it needs to take on its rivals. What are your thoughts on this latest offering? Let us know in the comments section below.
