The Aston Martin Vantage Is The New Formula 1 Safety Car!
The Aston Martin DBX gets to be medical car this season
by Alina Moore, onThe 2022 Formula 1 racing season is about to begin with the first races taking place at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on 8-10 April. This year, once again, Aston Martin will be responsible for offering both the Safety Car and the Medical Car. The Vantage will play the first role, while the second one will be reserved for the DBX SUV.
What is special about the Vantage Safety Car?
The Vantage Safety Car was inspired by the Vantage F1 Edition and will be finished in the new 2022 Aston Martin Racing Green - first used on the AMR22. It will be a one-of-a-kind racing car and was developed by the engineering team at Aston Martin’s Headquarters in Gaydon, U.K., in collaboration with the FIA.
The supercar was updated for its new role in the F1 competitions around the globe. It features an FIA safety car livery, bodyside mounted radio antennas, an LED rear number plate, and a bespoke, roof-mounted LED light bar.
The interior is also updated, so both the driver and the passenger will have access to the FIA’s Marshalling System. This system displays lights corresponding to any warning flags being shown. Also, lots of cameras are placed on the inside and outside to provide live TV footage.
Under the hood, it will come with the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that makes 528 horsepower and 505 pound-feet of torque.
How about the DBX Medical Car?
Similar to the Vantage Safety Car, the DBX Medical Car was modified for its new role. It will be equipped with a defibrillator and a large medical kit bag, while the interior gets FIA-approved racing seats equipped with a six-point safety harness, a marshaling system, and even TV screens so that the doctor can see exactly what is happening in the race.
Under the hood, the medical car retains the usual twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers a total of 542 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It is capable of going from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 181 mph. Could Aston Martin have offered the new DBX 707? It would’ve been nice advertising for the ’world’s most powerful luxury SUV’!
