It feels as though we have only been hearing about Audi's e-Trons lately. Audi is producing various electric cars with the e-Tron moniker, and we have to admit they are causing a scare amongst other automakers. This time at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the German manufacturer has unveiled the Audi e-tron Concept GT - A future fighter that will go against the Tesla Model S.

The e-Tron GT is A Power-Packed Performer

First things first, the e-Tron GT is a beast. It is a sleek, smart sedan that uses electric power from the same drivetrain and battery platform as seen in the Porsche Taycan. We speculate this to be the testing ground for Audi to come up with an electric R8 in the future, perhaps. The Audi e-tron GT will produce a total output of 590 horses that will help it reach 62 miles per hour from a standstill in 3.5 seconds! It touches 124 miles per hour in 12 seconds before topping out at 149 miles per hour. The Audi e-tron GT has a motor at the front and in the back to provide Quattro traction and torque vectoring.

The e-Tron GT is a Fast Charging Beast

The e-Tron GT packs a 90-kWh battery that is placed between the axels. The WLTP-acclaimed range is 250 miles. Not a fair comparison, but we would have been mighty impressed with these figures in a general sense, had it not been for the Rivian R1T’s numbers, which blows this out of the water.

Other Salient Features

Talk about the advantages of missing a combustion engine! Audi says that the e-Tron GT has been “developed in close collaboration with Porsche.” As for the interior, Audi claims it to be vegan – it uses synthetic leather, microfiber headlining, and the foot carpets are made from recycled fishing nets.

Our Take

If you’re expecting the GT to be priced cheap, you have some really high hopes. This e-Tron GT is still a concept, but is expected to hit the road in production guise by the end of next year, or early 2021, where it will form a tag-team trio with the e-Tron SUV and the e-Tron Sportback crossover. Last year, Audi sold over 1.8 million cars worldwide, and by 2025, it says 600,000 of them will be electric. We expect Audi to come up with something new at literally every major auto show since the German automaker plans to add 12 all-electric cars to its range by the end of 2025. With the kind of aggressiveness this carmaker is launching EVs, it will be tough for its German compatriots to catch up. What are your thoughts on the Audi e-Tron GT Concept?
