Audi introduced its second all-electric crossover at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. It's called the 2021 e-tron Sportback and it's essentially a sportier looking version of the e-tron SUV introduced in 2018. While the SUV looks like an electric version of the Q7, the e-tron Sportback is essentially an EV variant of the Q8.

Not surprisingly, the e-tron Sportback looks a lot like the SUV. The front end is actually almost identical, sporting the same headlamps, grille, and bumper. The latter is the only feature that looks a bit different with bigger air vents to the sides, but also triangular. The front hood features the exact same character lines.

Onto the sides, things look the same below the beltline. The roof is obviously different on this model, because it sits lower and has a different shape toward the back.

Similarities continue in the back, where the taillights and every element between them and the diffuser are identical to the SUV. Changes include a deck lid with a spoiler on top and a heavily raked rear window.

The 2021 Audi e-tron Sportback has less passenger and trunk space

The interior of the Sportback is also identical to the SUV, but the coupe-style roof that's also lower than usual reduces passenger space. Audi says rear headroom drops by 0.8 inches, but legroom and shoulder room should remain the same. There's no word on trunk space yet, but the raked tailgate suggests a notable decrease in this department. The SUV's total capacity of 62 cubic feet should also decrease to less than 58 cubic feet.

The 2021 Audi e-tron Sportback comes with up to 402 horsepower on tap

It features two electric motors, one in the front and one in the back, that generate a total of 335 horsepower and 414 pound-feet of torque. Just like the SUV, it has an overboost mode that increases output to 402 horsepower and 490 pound-feet. That's an additional 67 horsepower and 76 pound-feet, impressive figures for such a function.

But the Sportback comes with something extra. While the regular e-tron uses 83.6 kWh of its 95 kWh battery pack, the e-tron Sportback uses 86.5 kWh. The extra energy adds a bit of extra range. With the e-tron rated at 204 miles in the U.S., the Sportback should deliver at least 215 miles on a full charge.
