Audi’s SUV barrage just does not seem to be ending. After introducing its flagship SUV, the Q8, and the fully-electric SUV e-tron, Audi is now preparing to include the Q4 in its range. The automaker says that it will stand out from the other ‘Q’ SUVs, but we are not sure how.

Audi Seems Confident To Impress The Customers

The Q4 has older siblings in the lineup - the Q5, Q7 and Q8 – so, we have our concerns as to how it can be any different, especially after seeing the “stark differences” between the BMW X3 and X4. Forget about BMW, Audi itself does not differentiate much between its SUVs. To quash these assumptions, Andreas Mindt, Audi’s head of designs told Autocar, “a bit more than a coupe version of the Q3, to my eyes a lot more”. The form-over-function trend that is seen on many SUVs these days will be seen on the Q4, What is it, you ask? It is the sloping roofline that eats into the headroom and the cargo room.

Same, Yet Different

Perhaps, Audi has based the Q4 on the same idea. Autocar has imagined the Q4, and from those pictures, it definitely looks like the Q4 has borrowed design cues from the TT offroad concept. The Q4 will be built alongside the Q3 in the automaker’s Győr factory in Hungary. It will share its underpinning with the Q3 but is expected to be longer and wider.

Will Be Offered With Multiple Engine Options

The Q4 will be offered with updated 1.5-liter, four-cylinder petrol and diesel mills, new versions of the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, petrol and diesel engines, as well as an all-new 2.5-liter, five-cylinder petrol mill that will produce up to 400 horses in the top-of-the-line RS Q4 model. That model will wear an e-Tron badge and is meant to cater to the Chinese market.

Wonder Where We Have Seen These Features Before...

These include gesture control functions, full-HD instrument displays, inductive smartphone charging, the latest connectivity features, and a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation.

Final Thoughts

The Q4 will be unveiled sometime next year. The U.S. markets has yet to receive the second-gen Q3, so the Q4 could hit the markets after that. As for the pricing, we speculate it to start around the $40,000 mark. So you think the Q4 will stand out as claimed by the German automaker?
