The G05-generation X5 and G06-gen X6 are the first of their kind to be offered in M Competition trim. The midsize SUVs joined nameplates like the X3, X4, 3 Series, and 4 Series in the summer of 2020, and BMW just added First Edition models to the lineup. Fitted with exclusive and extra features, these are limited to only 250 units each, making them the rarest X5 and X6 models from this ongoing generation.

What makes the X5 and X6 M Competition First Edition models special?

For starters, both SUVs come finished in Individual Frozen Dark Silver paint. A unique shade of matt silver made in the BMW Individual laboratory -- these paints usually cost thousands of dollars -- this finish is exclusive to the First Edition series. If you're not a silver fan, you can also order these crossovers in Frozen Marina Bay Blue, also by BMW Individual. Both SUVs ride on M light-alloy wheels in a star-spoke design finished high-gloss Jet Black, again an exclusive feature. Exterior add-ons also include carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) elements such as mirror caps, rear spoiler, and engine cover.

The interiors of the First Edition models are also trimmed in BMW Individual leather. Both the X5 and X6 feature Merino leather in a two-tone finish combining Silverstone and Midnight Blue. You cannot opt for this combination on regular X5 M and X6 M models. Black Alcantara complements the bi-color leather inserts in the seat bolsters and contrast stitching in Sakhir Orange. The Alcantara headliner is finished in Midnight Blue for a more exclusive look. Other highlights include CFRP trim and silver-colored "First Edition 1/250" lettering on the dashboard.

More than 600 horsepower

The First Edition models are standard M Competition models under the hood, but that's nothing to sneeze at. The M Competition is the range-topping trim in terms of power, so you'll have almost supercar-like power at your disposal. Specifically, the 4.4-liter V-8 engines in the X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition are rated at a whopping 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. That's enough to hit 60 mph in a scant 3.7 seconds.

Pricing information for the First Edition models is not yet available, but the limited production run will make them notably more expensive than the standard M Competition models. Both will cost more than $120,000.
