The Bugatti Bolide, an experimental hypercar unveiled in October last year, made its public appearance for the first time. The Bolide is Bugatti’s most extreme model yet. The numbers on this thing are outrageous. Tt is a lightweight track-only missile on wheels powered by a mind-boggling 1850-horsepower. The monster engine behind the power is the legendary 8.0-liter W 16, which traces its roots back to the Veyron. The power to weight ratio on the Bolide is 1.48 lbs/hp, with a featherweight carbon body coming in at 2,733 lbs.

In the flesh, the Bolide manages to look even more extreme. With cuts and flanks, a massive fin and wing that wraps around the rear wheels, the Bolide looks purposeful. A car designed to defy the laws of physics, it seems. The hypercar manages to look like it is doing break neck speed, even while sitting still. These functional elements are, of course, required to get to over the 300 mph top speed. The back end is equally epic with those X-shaped LED lamps and a giant diffuser.

The people of Milan were in for a treat as they got to witness this one-of Bolide being driven around the streets. If you thought the looks are mental and are out of a sci-fi comic, wait until you hear this beast. The Aciriore YouTube channel had the opportunity to check the Bolide up close and experience the noise first hand.

When the Bugatti staff got a chance to start the engine, the monstrous W-16 lept into life, letting out a loud growl. The sound is so raw that it reminds us of an old blower Bentley from the 30s

. This was while idling. Just imagine this same engine at full chat on a race track.

As this car isn’t street legal and is designed for racing, Bugatti didn’t have to worry about complying with noise or exhaust regulations. Doing away with a muffler on a W16 with its power turned up to 1850 horsepower does have an effect for sure.
Bugatti may already be planning to build a small number of Bolides, which it will then sell for roughly 10 million euros each or $12 million. The Bolide is also FIA complaint. Will Bugatti re-enter motorsport, Le Mans in particular? Time will tell.
