Unlike Chevrolet, Hennessey isn’t interested in selling stock cars. Hennessey makes money out of its tuning kits, so don’t be so surprised that the tuner pitted a HPE850-imbued C7 Z06 against a factory-spec C8 with the latter not standing a chance. This video reeks of marketing and nothing but marketing.

Don’t go to Hennessey asking for fair drag races and whatnot

No, we’re not being sanctimonious here. We love a wacky drag race from time to time, just for fun. Which is alright, as long as you take it with a pinch of salt and don’t start hating on the (stock) C8 Corvette.

That said, we’ll take a look at some numbers here, for a better picture of why this video shouldn’t be taken too seriously. So, right at the start of the video, the guy sitting in the tuned Z06 mentions that it’s equipped with the HPE850 package which, if we’re not mistaken, claims to offer 850 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque as well as a 0-60 sprint dispatched in 2.6 seconds and a quarter-mile runs of 10.3 seconds @ 136 mph.

In the opposite corner, the C8 cranks out 490 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque (or 495 horsepower with the Z51 package). Obviously, that's no match for a car that puts out twice its power output. Keep in mind, though, that the C8 can still go from naught to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds according to Car and Driver testing data.

We also know that Hennessey has plans to imbue the C8, so how about giving it 850 horsepower and then repeat the duel?
