The Suggested Price Point for the Cadillac LYRIQ Doesn’t Reinforce the Exclusivity Cadillac Suggested

The Cadillac Lyriq has been in the news for a lot of reasons. While it showcased an impressive amount of tech features, it has been trolled massively for its name. The much-anticipated EV was unveiled earlier this month and it looked fairly impressive. It is still far from production, and we aren’t sure if all the features showcased will be offered in the production models. Earlier, it was said that it will start under $75,000, but now Automotive News has quoted the President of Cadillac saying it will have a starting price below $60,000.

This Could Start A Price War In The Segment

The announcement was made by Steve Carlisle, the President of Cadillac, at the JP Morgan Auto Conference. He said,

“This car will need to be priced similar to how the industry prices midsize lux SUVs today, maybe a slight premium at the outset. It's a price that won't be high five digits. It won't start with a seven and it won't start with a six.”

This even undercuts the $75,000 price that Steve had mentioned earlier. If this is true, then the Lyriq will be closer to the Tesla Model Y’s price than the Model X’s. It will also sit under the Jaguar I-Pace and the Audi E-Tron.

That’s Absolute Bang For The Buck

The Lyriq is sized similar to the Cadillac XT5, but rides almost four inches lower and has a longer wheelbase. It will be powered by GM’s Ultium battery. Back in March, GM revealed the Ultium batteries and a flexible global platform for its EVs. These are basically pouch-style cells that can be packed either horizontally or vertically in the battery pack. This is said to have a good impact on the performance and the charging times. The 100 kW battery will be good for approximately 300 miles and will support fast charging of more than 150 kW. The standard Lyriq will be a rear-wheel-drive version, but an all-wheel-drive Performance version will be available as an option.

Things are pretty cool on the inside as well. The Lyriq will come with a 33-inch display that runs from the driver’s side to the center console. It is essentially three screens placed behind a curved glass. Pure Handsfree SuperCruise will also be offered. But, with all these features, expect the Cadillac Lyriq’s price to run into the Model X’s bracket.

Final Thoughts

Does this mean the base version that will be priced under $60,000 will be barebones? We’ll have to wait and see what happens. The Cadillac Lyriq is expected to hit the production line in late 2022. It is just a show car for now, so do you think all the features will make it to production? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
