Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ arranged another exciting race, this time involving two hot cars from the affordable segment. The contenders were the Volkswagen Jetta GLI and the Hyundai Veloster N. While one’s a certified hot hatch, the other has impressed in the past. Remember when it humiliated a Ford Mustang in its last appearance here? But, past is the past, and this time, it needs to take down the Veloster N, which has more horsepower and is a tad bit lighter as well. Can it overcome the odds?

Same Torque, But Different Horsepower Output

The front wheels are powered here exclusively via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

, which is nearly 50 horsepower more than the Jetta, but the torque is just two pound-feet of torque more. Power is routed to the front wheels here as well via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Jetta weighs 3,178 pounds, which makes it just 12 pounds heavier than the Veloster N. But, due to the significant power difference, the Veloster N boasts of a much healthier power-to-weight ratio of .087 hp/lb versus the Jetta’s .073 hp/lb.

This Wasn’t Even Close

Both the cars started in their respective sportiest setting with the Launch Control in the first standing drag race. It looked like they both had similar starts, but once the Veloster hooked, it was game over for the Jetta. A convincing victory for the South Korean. They gave it a shot with the same cars in the same settings again to see if there would be a difference whatsoever. The answer? No. The result was exactly the same this time as well.

They took part in two roll races from 31 mph, both with the cars in their sportiest settings. The only difference was the gearbox mode. The first race was with the gearbox in automatic mode and the second one in manual mode. The Veloster N had the NGS activated. It stands for N Grin Shift and gives you 20 seconds of power boost. With everything favoring the Veloster N here, there was no chance it was going to lose… and it didn’t. The Jetta lost all the races to end up losing 0-4 overall.
